This is the homepage of the The Study and Creation of Buddhist Lexicographical Resources project,
and this website is built and maintained by Digital Archive Division, Dharma Drum Buddhist College (DDBC).
This project is sponsored by Taiwan e-Learning and Digital Archives Program (TELDAP),
and executed by DDBC Digital Archive Division, with assistance from the Department of Chinese Literature,
National Chengchi University, and Department of Computer Science & Information Engineering,
and Department of Engineering Science & Ocean Engineering, National Taiwan University.
The registered full title of this project in TELDAP is The Study and Creation of Buddhist Lexicographical Resources:
Integrated Service for Buddhist Reference Tools in the Digital Age, and the operation period dates from 2009/09 to 2012/09.
From the perspective of long-term development, Buddhist Lexicon Research Resources is a simpler
and more precise title to describe the scope and content of this project. For this reason,
this website is named Buddhist Lexicon Research Resources. In addition, at DDBC Digital Archive Division,
this project is simply called the Reference Tools Project.
Sutras, sutra catalogues and reference books, such as dictionaries, are 3 essential materials for Buddhist literature researches.
For the purpose of helping scholars to be able to use these 3 materials on the computers and to make their research process easier
and more efficient in the information age, DDBC has long been committed to digitize these 3 materials.
After gradually completing the work of CBETA electronic Tripitaka and Digital Database of Buddhist Tripitaka Catalogues,
the next step in this series of work is the Reference Tools Project, the purpose of which is to digitize Buddhist reference books.
The scope of reference books is enormous and complex. From the point of view of information digitization,
this project defines reference books as information tools for assisting literature researches,
and divides the work of ditigization into 2 aspects: archives resources digitization and retrieval tools development.
In archive digitization, the major digitizing targets are Buddhist lexicon and phonology research information,
and the sources of texts are first chosen from Tripitaka and then expanded into other current literature sources.
On the other hand, the retrieval tools development is to develop search and statistical tools based on the digitized text sources.
Users can acquire the aforementioned results by linking to the pages of Digital Archives and Search Tools on this site.
Another feature of this project is that all the project work is led by research.
More specifically, concrete research topics are established first,
and then the necessary digital archives and related search tools for these chosen topics are set up.
Users can obtain relevant information regarding the chosen topics by linking to the page of Research Topics on this site.
In fact, it has been proven that the model of research topics leading project work can not only guarantee the usefulness
of the project results but also inject into given traditional research topics new information resources and vitality.
